The Joys of Correcting

Say what the original sentence could have been, and explain the circumstances of the situation:
a) They said that they love each other.

Answer:

They said: "We love each other."
Some time ago they told me that they love each other.
I believe it.
And they are still doing it.

(good on them, I say)

at least sometimes correcting really can be fun... Unfortunately, my German essays weren't quite so entertaining this time. I just got various people writing about Schiller's "Verfassung" - nice of them to care so much about how he felt, or maybe they thought he'd written some kind of constitution? (the essay was about a supposedly planned new version of one of Schiller's stories)
